The Black Forest imposes itself with its beauty in the summer of Freiburg. The corners of the neighbourhoods shine with this imposing background.
The city promotes care for the environment, healthy living and the use of alternative energies. This is not the only reason why it is considered the most ecological city in the country. Bicycles are twice the number of cars.
Explore Freiburg – bike around the city
For this reason it has a network of roads of approximately 160 km. to be traveled by bicycle quickly and safely. More than 35,000 people travel these roads every day. Cyclists have exclusive trails throughout the city. If you want to feel the city of Freiburg, we recommend you to do it with a bicycle.
Cycling allows you to discover Fribourg in a different way. The advantages are many: in minutes you can reach the not so touristy and unmissable neighbourhoods of Freiburg; get to know the Dreisam river and follow its exclusive route “FR21”, one of the three priority routes for bicycles of the “Radkonzept 2020” project; get around the city in a short time, contribute to the environment, promote your health, and save money.
If you don’t have a bicycle and would like to take part in this adventure, you can rent one behind the central station on the Radstation. The building stands out for its modern architecture and features bicycle rental services; guided tours in German, English and Spanish; bicycle parking; and a cafeteria on the terrace with an amazing view of the city.
Another way to rent a bicycle is at one of the 55 FRELO stations. This new transport connection system is operated by VAG and Nextbike GmbH from Leipzig. Users can rent a bicycle at one of the stations and then return it to the same or another station. There are 400 FRELO 7-speed bikes available throughout the city.
It is only necessary to register only once in a smartphone app, or by direct telephone line. For those who do not have a smartphone there will be ten stations where people can register using the terminals located in the stations and rent a Frelo without excuses.
The trip costs 1€ for 30 minutes. For those who subscribe to Nextbike for certain periods of use, the first half hour of each trip is free. Also for those who purchase a RegioKarte through one of the subscriptions (RegioKarte for adults, RegioKarte for students, apprentices subscribed, RegioKarte for workers, JobTicket BW), the first 30 minutes of each trip are free.
On the daily flat rate, users pay 12 euros for 24 hours, students receive a reduced price of 10€ for 24 hours.
We recommend that if you travel in Freiburg at any time of the year, don’t miss out on a Freiburg-style walk. And don’t forget to send us your favourite tour through our website.
